Welcome to the information site of the Middle East News and Information Bureau, MENIB, which will tell you who we are, what we plan to do, and how you can help in the creation of the Bureau. MENIB will gather news of daily events in Palestine and Israel and distribute photo’s video and text to the world’s media. Please find out about us here and then join us in helping to tell the world about what is really happening to the people of that ravaged country. MENIB began as an idea shared by a group of like-minded people. The idea was simple and the objectives of MENIB soon became clear. The tragic events and the terrible human conflict in Israel and Palestine have increased in intensity over the last forty years until today. People have always fought for nationhood and the preservation of their culture and livelihood against those who would take these basic human rights away from them. The land now occupied by Palestinians and Jews has seen this struggle getting fiercer as each year passes until now when both sides have resorted to desperate and violent acts of war against the other. The whole world is now being affected by the shock waves of this conflict and the world’s media are increasingly looking for accurate and timely reports and photographs of what is happening. The military occupation and oppression and suicide bombings are regular events that are frequently shown on television and seen in the press. What is rarely seen is the desperate human situation being suffered by innocent people. The punishment of hundreds of thousands of children restricted by curfew and fear and unable to go to school; old people unable to feed themselves and working men unable to work; housewives fearful of going shopping and of traveling on buses.

As an agency for the collection and distribution of news and information on the conflict MENIB will seek to provide a deeper and wider perspective than has previously been available. By providing an outlet to the worlds media for professional journalist working within the communities MENIB will show more of the human desperation, as well as some of the super human resilience of people in impossible situations and deprived of basic human rights.

This is what brought the original group together to create MENIB. No government, political party, large institution or self-interested group will influence the operations of MENIB. Professional broadcasters, journalists, academics and technicians will manage MENIB and its funding will be wide and diverse.

Many news stories from Palestine are not, or are only superficially, covered by the world’s media because photos and video are not available, not provided or restricted. MENIB coverage will be focused on Palestine and Israel and the multi media content it provides will be rich in detail. It will seek to become the source of first choice for journalists seeking broader and more detailed views on news and events through it’s access to people and situations that may not always be available to established news agencies and media correspondents.
Freelance photographers and journalists use MENIB to provide their work to the world’s media directly, using the latest photo and video delivery systems on the world wide web. Multi media content is made available to news media directly without having to go through the Jerusalem offices of the main wire agencies.
MENIB’s focus provides journalists and newsrooms with fast and accurate news content together with in depth background details. From the daily news photos MENIB is creating a photo and video library that will build over time to provide an historic record of events. The Library will be available to all media as a resource for journalists and programme makers.

MENIB is now recruiting professional staff to expand its operations. Journalists and photographers are being recruited in Palestine and Israel together with writers, commentators and experts in the UK and elsewhere.
